"We want to give people the experience of having the freshest Nantucket Bay Scallops right from the source."
We are three brothers from Nantucket. We have spent our whole lives on the water. Whether it’s fishing, surfing, exploring the island, learning about its history and ours, between the three of us there is always enthusiasm. We love it here and appreciate what a unique place it really is.
Our family's involvement in the bay scallop industry goes back four generations. Our great-grandfather Elliot Whelden was a commercial fisherman while Ernie, our grandfather and Larry, our father played a larger role in the distribution of Nantucket Bays to fish markets in Boston during the early 1970's. Their business 'The Commissary' evolved into what is now The Nantucket Lobster Trap restaurant. The three of us took over the family business in 2008 and have been at it ever since.
In 2012 we began The Nantucket Bay Scallop Trading Company. Initially we would freeze our catch for the restaurant but soon came the idea of offering fresh scallops to anyone and everyone. We wanted to give people the experience of having the freshest Nantucket bay scallops right from the source.
